The ISP Mentoring Programme: An Exciting Opportunity to Give Back
We are excited to announce the launch of our new Mentoring Programme this September, a unique and exciting opportunity for alumni and community members to give back to the ISP family.
This programme is designed to foster meaningful connections between experienced professionals and our current students, creating a supportive network that encourages personal and academic growth. As a mentor, you will have the chance to share your knowledge, skills, and experiences, guiding students as they navigate their educational journeys and prepare for their future careers.
ISP Alumni who are willing, from time to time, to give careers advice to ISP students and other alumni. The plan is that those seeking the advice would be able to contact a ‘mentor’ in their chosen field via the alumni website.
Those seeking careers advice might be intending to go into law, engineering, finance, academia, land management, marketing, the military or dozens of other professions. Or they might want to do a master’s or PhD. Or they might like to chat to a university student about what their undergraduate course is like, or to someone doing an apprenticeship.
If you’re able to give a few minutes of your time every now and then to help ISP students past and present seeking careers advice, we’d love to hear from you.
Key highlights of the programme will include:
Affinity Groups: To enhance the mentoring experience, we are introducing affinity groups based on university locations and career or study areas. For example, there will be groups like "Study in Canada," "Careers in the Arts," and more. These groups will be set up on our alumni platform, ToucanTech. Alumni can join relevant "spaces" (like group chats) on the app, and ISP students can log on and post questions. Any alumni interested in answering these questions can do so, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and advice.
Community Building: This programme strengthens the bonds within our school community, creating a network of support and collaboration that extends beyond the classroom.
Interactive Engagement: Each affinity group will have an alumni moderator and a student liaison to keep the conversations going. To encourage participation, there will be prizes for the most active groups. Additionally, affinity group members can organize webinars and other events to share their expertise and experiences more broadly.
Giving Back: By becoming a mentor, you have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of our students, shaping the next generation of leaders and innovators.
We invite you to join us in this exciting initiative and make a lasting impact on the ISP community. Your involvement will not only enrich the lives of our students but also foster a culture of giving back and lifelong learning.
